FAQ
What Is Laser Therapy?
Laser therapy has a wide range of applications. Cleveland Laser Rehab is conducting a medical research study utilizing a cold laser to stimulate specific acupuncture points. Low level laser is being studied in the U.S. to determine if it boosts metabolism & suppresses appetite, thereby assisting in weight loss.
Is Laser Therapy Safe?
Low Level Laser Light Therapy (LLLT) works by stimulating a cell's natural metabolism. The effects are biochemical, not thermal, and therefore cannot damage living cells (Karu, 1998, 1999, 2002). Low level lasers have been ruled "non-significant risk" devices by FDA, and are non-invasive and drug-free. LLLT, which is a non-medical procedure and respected by many physicians as a highly effective treatment, has been used in Canada, England, and other parts of Europe for over 20 years. Our clinic environment is relaxing and comfortable, and the laser session itself takes on average less than one hour.
How Does Laser Therapy Work?
The laser light reaches through the skin to stimulate your nerve endings to produce endorphins. Endorphins are produced normally by your body and are nature's own mood lifter and anesthetic. The endorphin production relieves the physical withdrawal symptoms of quitting smoking and helps keep you from feeling anxious or "crabby".
What Parts Of My Body Will Be Treated?
The laser is used on ears, nose, legs, and hands.
Will I Gain Weight?
Weight gain is avoidable when quitting smoking with laser treatment. Studies conducted in other countries have shown little to no weight gain with Laser Therapy. If weight gain is a concern, ask your Cleveland Laser Rehab technician to explain our plan options to help ensure that you do not gain weight while you're quitting smoking.
Will My Medical Insurance Cover The Cost Of Laser Therapy?
Since Laser Therapy is not a medical treatment, insurance will not pay for it. However, the cost of many smoking cessation programs is tax-deductible. Please consult with your financial advisor for more information.
Are There Any Health Conditions For Which Laser Therapy Is Not Recommended?
Yes, Laser Therapy is not recommended for those who have blockages, tumors, active cancers, epilepsy, or for those undergoing radiation or chemotherapy. If you have health concerns, consult your physician prior to treatment.
Is It Guaranteed?
Nicotine addiction consists of two factors: the physical addiction and the mental addiction. The laser treatment is designed to relieve the physical withdrawal symptoms, but will not give you amnesia. If you have smoked a pack a day for thirty years, this means you will be making a huge change to your daily routine when you quit. Even if you have NO physical symptoms, you will still think about smoking. Therefore, while we can not make a guarantee, we will do everything in our power to ensure your success. Laser treatment + education + your commitment = a winning combination!
