A Laser is...
Laser is the latest and most advanced of our light sources.  The word LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

History of the Laser...
Albert Einstein is given credit for the development for the development of the laser theory in which he used the term stimulated emission of electromagnetic radiation in 1917.  Theodore Maiman presented the first working laser, which was a ruby laser, at a press conference July 7, 1960.  One year later, many different types of lasers were ready for use on the market worldwide.  The military applied this technology first.  Next, lasers has a profound effect in surgical applications and eventually the benefit of the use of low powered lasers began to emerge for their therapeutic effects.  Dr. Andre Mester, from Budapest, is considered the grandfather of low level laser therapy.  He discovered irradiation of tissue with low does laser levels by using a ruby laser resulted in an increased rate of healing.

About Low Level Laser Therapy...
Low level laser therapy utilizes a series of processes and chain reactions to produce a complex set of physiological interactions, for example, photo bio-stimulation.  The laser light stimulates the human cells and triggers a response in the body that has the result of neuron stimulus, decreased inflammation, and increased circulation.  Therefore, the low level laser therapy results in faster healing of the damaged area, considerable increase in tensile strength of repaired tissue, balance of collagen production and reduction of scarring, stimulation of the immune system, resolution of the infection, pain relief, acupuncture point stimulation, bone healing, dermatology, and preventative application.  Low level laser therapy (LLLT) is not damaging to the tissue (doesn't change the structure or temperature of the tissue), is purely therapeutic in its effect, non-traumatic, and should never be confused with a surgical laser that cuts or burns.  There are also no known side effects.

There are numerous alternative treatments for nicotine and food addiction.  In our pre-clinical research study, we are using the low level laser for the treatment of these addictions (nicotine and food).  The low level laser has been used for the stimulation of acupuncture points for many years.  Although there has been success of needle acupuncture for the treatment of tobacco addiction, the growing effects of HIV contamination with invasive treatments has resulted in researching the effects of low level laser therapy.  LLLT initially began in China in the early 1970's, and soon made its way to Canada, France, and the UK.  We are applying this basic principle in the treatment for nicotine and food addiction because it has been used effectively world-wide and may provide a better alternative to existing treatments or drug modalities.

What Cleveland Laser Rehab Does...
We use a low level laser for meridian therapy.  Meridian therapy, in our case, is the use of a low level laser to treat acupuncture points on the surface of the ear (ear reflex points) and meridian points in other parts of the body.  Meridian points are the invisible lines of energy which allow circulation between specific sets of acupuncture points.
